Becky Olson
Assistant Volleyball Coach

A native of Sebastopol, Calif., Olson was a four-year letterwinner as an outside hitter with the Aggies from 1998-2001, playing her first two seasons under Clark.

As a senior, Olson led the team with 306 total digs and 2.95 kills per game, ranking fourth and 12th in the California Collegiate Athletic Association respectively, to earn a spot on the All-CCAA Second Team. The team's MVP in 2001, she finished her career as one the program's all-time leaders in digs.

Olson graduated from UC-Davis with a Bachelor's Degree in human development with a minor in communications. Since then, she attended Dominican University to attain her teaching credential and has taught sixth and seventh grade at a junior high school in her hometown. She has also spent time coaching at Analy High School in Sebastopol and with Empire Volleyball Club, her former high school club squad.

In addition to her coaching duties at Butler, Olson will be working toward earning her Masters of Science in Education in the College of Education's Masters in Effective Teaching and Leadership Program (METL).


Karen Weatherington
Associate Head Volleyball Coach and Recruting Coordinator

Weatherington's primary on-court responsibilities include training the middle blockers, who have consistently been ranked at the top of the Horizon League in blocking. Weatherington came to Butler after serving as the top assistant at Clemson for two seasons. Prior to that, she served as an assistant at both Iowa State and Duke, where she recruited several of the nation's top players at both institutions.

While at Iowa State, Weatherington made an impact in junior volleyball by serving on the Iowa Heart Volleyball Association Board of Directors, revitalizing interest in volleyball within the community. She was the head coach and technical director of the Cyclone Cylect Volleyball Club and served as the instructional coach for the USA Volleyball Youth National Team Trials from 1997-2000.

Her coaching career began in 1994, serving as the first assistant at her alma mater, New Mexico State. A standout for New Mexico State from 1984-88, Weatherington traveled abroad to compete in Russia, Finland and Sweden prior to her final season with the Aggies.

Since arriving at Butler, Weatherington has rekindled her involvement in the advancement of Division I women's volleyball. She became the Horizon League's representative on the American Volleyball Coaches Association's (AVCA) Assistant Coaches Committee in the fall of 2004 and began a three-year term as Assistant Coaches Chair on the AVCA National Board of Directors in 2005.

Weatherington spent the 2004 spring season as the head coach of the Pike Fire Inferno 18 Elite Volleyball team. She has also served as an instructor at the Midwest Volleyball Instructors Elite Volleyball Camp and as a presenter at the AVCA Convention Minority Coaches Clinic from 1997-2003.

She is a 2005 graduate of the NCAA's Women Coaches Academy, which was created to enhance the skills and perspectives of women coaches and to aid in the retention of women coaches in intercollegiate athletics. A member of the Delta Sigma Theta public service sorority, she also serves on the Butler University staff assembly employee affairs committee.

Weatherington continued her membership in the Black Coaches Association (BCA) and attended their annual convention held in Indianapolis, which also serves as the organization's headquarters.

She is currently a member of USA Volleyball, the BCA and the Women's Sports Foundation and is the implementer of the Butler Campus Sweep beautification project.

She graduated from New Mexico State in 1988 with degrees in journalism and psychology with a minor in marketing. She completed her Masters of Science in Education with an emphasis is instructional technology at Butler in the The College of Education's Masters in Effective Teaching and Leadership program (METL), earning a 4.00 GPA.

Most recently, Weatherington presented at conferences for the MIVA Association and the Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association. She also participated on the NCAA/NCLR Think Tank on Homophobia in Sport.

She and her husband, Eddie, have a daughter, Zoe.
